Government 

      The focus of the course is to develop an understanding of how our system of government works.  We will look at aspects of government from the national, state, and local levels.  The origins of our government will be studied, as well as how the government affects our daily lives.  We will read and analyze historical documents, landmark Supreme Court cases, and current issues in the news.  We will view videos that may be controversial; but ones that generate discussion and debate.  A key component to the course is the ability to discuss issues in a respectful manner and to listen to others’ opinions.  Students will gain an understanding of the ideological, cultural, and ethnic diversity that makes our country unique, while learning how this diversity has shaped our nation.
