World History I

World History I

World History reflects the recent new Massachusetts Frameworks goals for 2018 by examining the developments of major world civilizations from 500 – 1800 CE. Areas of study will include the exploration of societies in Europe, East Asia, Africa, South Asia, the Middle East, and pre and post Columbian Americas. Our study of world history will look at a combination of major historical events, the people, and the geographical characteristics of the regions. This course examines the history of the major religions, arts and literature, scientific developments, and technological advances of civilizations. Students will be expected to participate in classroom activities, independent and group research, and in class discussions. Students will be evaluated through tests and quizzes, written homework assignments, class participation and cooperation, written research projects, and group/individual presentations. A strong emphasis will be placed on developing historical understanding, improving research skills, and learning how to examine and understand primary sources. By the end of this course, students will be expected to have an understanding of cause and effect, a chronology of historical events, and be able to distinguish between fact and opinion when examining sources.
