 Street Law

Students will learn what the law is and how it is administered, enforced, and changed. More importantly, this class will empower students with legal and civic knowledge allowing for the development of  skills and confidence necessary to bring about positive change for themselves and their communities.

Students interested in careers focusing on the criminal justice system, the law, sociology, civil rights, family issues such as foster care and adoption, will find this class very useful.

Problem solving, critical thinking, and cooperative learning will be strategies used in order to promote improved communication and conflict resolution skills.  Students will engage in activities that promote public speaking skills, such as Mock Trials and debates, for example. Emphasis will be placed on the development of intellectual skills such as precision in writing, backing up conclusions with evidence, and effective analysis of data presented.
